So, somewhat cool news?
I'm sure a good number of you got my silly, squealy text message a few days ago.
My new GM Brad approached me one day when I came in at noon Thursday (when I was only scheduled 4-7:15) because we were having a walk by our District Manager's boss and I didn't want my manager Mari to be alone during it. I also wanted to help finish up the prep stuff, and be there in general because I was curious how these walks went. He started off asking the casual 'How interested would be in making PetSmart a long term career for you?" and I replied with very, I love my job, I love the people, and I love the store. Then he FLOORED me with "Well.....I've been looking for someone who can step up in the event that Mari ever leaves us. I think Pet Care Manager is the most important position in the store and I've been looking around, watching the people I think are strong in the store and seeing who I think would be successful. I think it would be wonderful to be able to give you the department when we move in March."
Wait. I think he just said what I think he said...didn't he?

He asked if I had ever considered management, and that while he had no idea when Mari would be leaving, he thought I'd be a strong replacement.
Today, he had me fill out a background check form and he's faxed that off...I should have an answer by Friday on how that went (which, by the way, what in the hell goes into an internal background check for a promotion? Mari just mentioned things like theft, which I've never had any record of any sort....so yeah?) and at the least, I'm fairly sure I'm moving up to Pet Care Lead, which acts as the standing Manager whenever Mari's not in the store.
I asked Mari what that meant for me, as far as this whole background check and all the things Brad has been saying too me, and she told me that she's actively looking for a new job in International Affairs and that I need to learn how to do all the things that she does.
I was promoted to full time earlier this week, got my three month evaluation (spectacular across the board, I just need to work on delegating tasks to others), Sept. 15th my raise from that goes into affected (which I could be seeing a 3% raise, which would bring me up to 7.98)
Basically, everything with work is going spectacular, I adore my job, I love the people I work with, and I honestly couldn't be happier. I'm glad I've left behind the jobs that just made me miserable, and I couldn't ask for anything better at this point than to get my own place.
A few of the girls I work with and adore and I are going to start scoping out houses for lease. I'd rather have a house than an apartment, its more freedom for me and my kids, and just better in general.
So guys, keep your fingers crossed for me!!!
