HEY, WORLD OF ROLEPLAYING. OOC =\= IC.

SAY IT WITH ME.

OUT OF CHARACTER IS NOT THE SAME AS IN CHARACTER.

Perhaps but that is not entirely true.

Because sometimes IC does affect OOC.

For example, I was just as happy as Fatalis when puppies were due.

And I know Iris was sad when Liyano and my character broke up.

I know there should be a difference, but it's not always possible :)

And I don't mean that as a bad thing per say.

I think a little mixing is normal; the characters RPers make are, in part, extensions of themselves and their emotions.

Extreme mixing though is a little... overboard (and moreso what I was speaking about above). But it's also a trap people can get into; a large chunk of RPers get into this trap, IMO. I admit I did, with bad side effects afterward. Now, while I still have that connection to a character - I just finished an RP idea where my character broke up with another and it was seriously stressful for both, and in reaction, I did cry - I am also able to let it go and be "me" later, which was not something I could do before for various reasons.

You're right; it's not a bad thing per say, only if it starts to become an extension into your RL.

There's a difference between someone doing something ICly completely based off an OOC event - like a character disliking another character based on two people's feelings towards another - and having an OOC reaction because of something IC - like me getting emotional when Poet died, because having an OOC reaction to an IC event isn't the same thing as having something happen ICly based on something OOC.

I'm mostly talking about people doing things IC based on their feelings OOC....like petty things. It's different when people do things out of spite, versus having an actual need because of OOC constrants...like when Salene left the Valley. I didn't want it to happen, but I was working nearly 12-14 hours at least 6 days a week because I had to replace my car and fast. I didn't have time for leadership, or admin things, so I had to come up with a reason why she'd leave and work it out that way.

I'm more or less talking about a person having an in character reaction to their out of character feelings towards another person / event...things that have no good reason to happen.
